Drake released “Laugh Now Cry Later”, a new collaboration with Lil Durk, on Thursday at midnight.
Cardogotwings, GRy, Yung Exclusive, and Roget Chahayed had co-produced “Laugh Now Cry Later”. In an Instagram post, Drake said this song will appear on his forthcoming album, which will be titled Certified Lover Boy.
In this track, Drake plays basketball with Kevin Durant and throws around a football with Odell Beckham Jr. It looks like a Nike commercial.
The beat of song is brassy and unhurried, a perfect setting for casual bluster “Sometimes we laugh and sometimes we cry but I guess you know now/ We took a trip now we on your block and it’s like a ghost town” Drake raps. “I’m like the baby I’m not just a rapper you play with me you gon get stressed”
In addition, 2020 has seen plenty of music from Drake. He has been productive during quarantine, releasing the Dark Lane Demo Tapes collection in May. It narrowly missed the Number One spot on the Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums chart. It netted Drake his twelfth consecutive Top 10 album on the Billboard 200, debuting at No. 2 behind Kenny Chesney’s Here and Now.
“Pain 1993” also debuted at No. 7 in the Hot 100, tying Drake with Madonna for the most Top 10 Hits in Hot 100 history. A few weeks later, he would break the tie with “Greece” and “Popstar,” two new collabs with DJ Khaled. Drake would also collaborate with Popcaan on “All I Need” and “Twist & Turn,” two cuts from the Jamaican dancehall star’s Fixtape.
In May, the rapper promised to release his sixth studio album in “summer 2020.”
